The Honourable Myra A. Freeman
The Hon. Myra A. Freeman CM,ONS,MSM,CD, a graduate of Dalhousie University, is an educator whose focus on youth related issues has been a hallmark of her commitment to community. Through her former service as Nova Scotia’s 30th Lieutenant Governor, Honorary Captain (Royal Canadian Navy), Governor of Mount Saint Vincent University Board, and former Director of the RCMP Foundation, the International Women’s Forum of Canada, Save the Children Canada, the Chairperson’s Advisory Group to the Canadian Judicial Council, and the Advisory Board of both the Prince’s Charities Trust and the Coady International Institute, she has served in leadership capacities and provided a greater awareness of community to the public.
Currently, Mrs. Freeman serves as Chair of the Telus Atlantic Community Board, and National Board Member of the Canadian Institute of Military Veterans Health Research, Historica Canada, Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards- Canada, and Youth Philanthropy Initiative. Her pursuit of excellence has led to recognition within the National Honours System as Member of the Order of Canada, the Order of Nova Scotia, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Canadian Service Decoration. Mrs. Freeman is the recipient of the Public Policy Forum of Canada Award, the Progress Women of Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award, the Richard Ivy School of Business and Women’s Executive Network Trailblazer Award, and holds six Honorary Degrees.
She is married to Lawrence Freeman, a partner at Stewart McKelvey, and the proud mother of three children and five grandchildren.
